There is a possible problem, however, that people should be aware of in regard to the mattress reviews on Epinions: At least some of them may be phony and made up.

You see, people in the mattress industry (those who sell and or make mattresses) are well aware that people frequently base their buying decision on what the reviews on Epinions say. Therefore, it is far from out of the question that dishonest people in the mattress industry provide bogus reviews to sway consumer opinion one way or the other. How many fake reviews are on Epinions? No one can know.

The Solution

Where, then, can a mattress researcher have a better chance of finding unbiased and authentic reviews? A terrific source of mattress information can be found on hundreds, if not thousands, of online message boards that are scattered across the web.

People often use these message boards to ask others which mattresses they think are best. People then reply, often giving recommendations based on their own mattress ownership experience. The responses tend to be informative and, more importantly, free of bogus reviews.

That's because, unlike Epinions, message boards tend to exist in near obscurity (they usually don't rank high in the search engines), are made up of close-knit groups of people, and often have safeguards against suspicious contributors, such as someone who appears from nowhere to write a mattress review.

By the way, you don't necessarily have to post a mattress question yourself on a message board. You can merely search the web for existing message board threads related to mattresses or a specific mattress type or brand you may be interested in.

How Does a Pressure Cooker Pot Work?

One of the great features of a pressure cooker pot is that it can be a real time saver in the kitchen. It can also perform the functions of a few different kitchen appliances, which can save space and money. Because pressure cookers use steam to cook food, they can also create healthier meals than other methods of cooking. Many people have come to embrace pressure cookers as an economical and convenient way of meal preparation, but still wonder how they actually work. The following is a guide to using a pressure cooker pot, including an explanation of how they work to cook food more quickly than other methods.

A pressure cooker pot, at first glance, look like any regular kitchen pot. The main difference you'll notice is the notches in the rim of the pot, which regular kitchen pots don't have. These grooves are matched to corresponding markings on the pressure lid.

To start the process, food is placed in the pot, then a fixed amount of liquid is added to them depending on the volume and type of food being cooked. It is this liquid that steams the food at high heat to cook it quickly and efficiently.

Once the item being cooked and prescribed amount of liquid are in the pressure cooker pot, the lid is placed on the pot and locked into place, forming an airtight seal through which no liquid or steam can escape.

Pressure cookers work just as their name implies. As the liquid inside the pot begins to heat up, it starts to boil and steam is produced. In a typical non-pressurized pot, even with a lid, quite a bit of this steam will escape around the edges. Because the steam inside a pressure cooker pot cannot escape, pressure builds up inside the pot. This causes food to cook faster and more evenly in two ways.

First, pressure buildup within these pots causes the boiling water and steam to heat up more than it would in a non-pressurized environment. Boiling water (and the steam it produces) has a temperature of 212 degrees Fahrenheit. Under pressure, steam reaches much higher temperatures. Secondly, the pressure inside actually forces the steam into the food, facilitating efficient and evenly distributed heat transfer.

Pressure inside a pot has its own unit of measure called PSI, or pounds per square inch. Most recipes for them call for relatively high pressure (typically of around 15 PSI) which heats the inside of the pot to a temperature of approximately 250 degrees Fahrenheit; an increase of about 40 degrees above foods boiled or steamed in a typical kitchen pot.

Some have concerns about the safety of them, but a modern pressure cooker pot is built from high quality materials and is safe to use when the instructions are followed. Proper sealing of the pot and correct use of the vent valve located in the center of the lid will ensure that those who use a pressure pot do it safely, while cooking delicious, healthy foods quickly and conveniently.

Advantages of Symantec Norton Internet Security 2009:

It has a high detection rate, as high as Kapersky, and higher than some other services.

It is incredibly easy to complete your purchase online, and quickly download, install and configure. Even those not computer literate can easily set up their preferences and the helpful tutorial starts up with your first use, teaching you how to use the features.

An amazing array of features! My personal favorites include: the identity theft protection, spyware, anti phishing, adware detection, web browsing and image protection, as well as the parental controls. Others may like the user name, password and credit card storing and protection.

Easy to read tool bars indicate that it is working in the background. There are easy to read, use and ignore "approval" of websites before you visit them. The identity theft protection utilizes not only the firewall, and spyware protection but also a storage system for log ins, passwords and credit card numbers eliminating the need to store them anywhere else and allows for ease of use.

The Price is Right:

It is reasonably priced at .99 or you can get the two year download for a discounted price of 4.99. This download is available for up to three computers in your home.

The Disadvantages of Symantec Norton Internet Security 2009:

The most frustrating thing about the Symantec Norton Internet Security suite is that it drags my computer down. I type over 80 wpm, I have several windows and systems open at a time and need to be able to access these windows, systems and images quickly and easily, for both personal and professional use. This antivirus program makes the computer run so slow that I am sitting and waiting for access to what I need. Just opening my computer for the day with this system causes a delay of more or less than 6 minutes just to open my first window.

Customer support is only free if you use the telephone, and it is suggested to purchase the on-line support. I would prefer free customer support for the service, after all not everyone is born with a hard drive for a brain and this may keep some people from investing in a quality antivirus system.

The more I use Symantec Norton Internet Security 2009 the less I like it, I have to walk away before I get mad at how long it takes to use certain systems on my computer. As long as my computer is open, and I only do one thing at a time, it runs slower, but not a complete stop. However, with more than one window open I consistently get a delay that is so long that I get a "not responding message" while I wait for everything to get in "sync."

The Maddening about Symantec Norton Internet Security 2009:

After weeks of the "bad" it gotten down right maddening. Since I can't have more than one application and browser window open, and my last attempt was for two hours, I uninstalled the system. The advantage don't outweigh the disadvantages for what I need. I want an all in one service package for more than one computer that doesn't limit my ability to work.

Bottom Line:

While Symantec Norton Internet Security Suite 2009 does what it says and is easy to use for scanning, other features are a little too confusing and the computer slow down would make it prohibitive for those who daily depend on their computer for many tasks including work. The fact that this slows it so much while "protecting me" was starting to feel like going through airport security and getting strip searched because my underwire bra is setting off the machine. I am told that's for my own good, but I don't want to do it either.

Symantec Norton Internet Security 2009 may be just right for computer users who are generally just surfing, shopping and using e-mail and want dependable anti-virus, phishing, spyware and identity theft protection.

Product Review - The Streetwise SW1000 1 Million Volt Stun Gun

The Streetwise 1000K stun gun model is one of the strongest stun guns on the market. According to the manufacturer it is capable of administering a 1,000,000 volt charge. To keep the unit non-lethal, the amperage is quite low by design. It is a rather tall unit as it holds three 9 volt batteries. (Less powerful stun guns typically take one battery.) It is 8 1/4 inches tall, 2 1/4 inches wide and 1 1/8 inches thick. The unit's case is a matte black plastic as are all stun guns of this nature. It features a master on-off switch and a firing rocker switch. This switch must be held to fire the gun. Once you lift your finger off the switch, the firing stops. Also included is a 130db alarm.

The Streetwise SW1000 stun gun features a disable pin with loop that you attach to the underside of the unit. You put the loop around your wrist. If an attacker snatches the gun away from you, the pin will pull out of the unit and the stun gun will be completely disabled,. That way the attacker cannot use the gun on you.

Perhaps "gun" is a misnomer because this tall rectangular device looks nothing like a gun. Would stun guns be less controversial if they weren't called guns at all? Perhaps. It should be noted that stun guns like this one fire nothing through the air (except a spark between its two electrodes). It is not a TASER. The unit must be held to the aggressor's skin or clothing to be effective. The effects are temporary and non-lethal unlike a firearm.

As befitting a high voltage unit, this device sports two 3/17 inch diameter electrodes quite a bit wider than lesser units. The snapping sound when activated is louder with a stronger visible spark. The intimidation factor is high. It is known that some aggressors will immediately flee when confronted with the menacing sound and site of the arcing electrodes.

This device includes a 130 db alarm which is unusual in a traditionally shaped stun gun. The alarm button is right underneath the toggle on/fire switch for easy accessibility. It is suggested to try the alarm first in an actual encounter as this may be enough to scare off your enemy.

In summary the Streetwise SW1000 stun gun is an impressive high voltage unit. The case is sturdy and comes with a nylon holster with belt loop. Installing three 9 volt batteries take a bit of finagling to fit inside the unit but once in, they stay put.  The manufacturer recommends using name brand alkaline batteries for reliable performance.
